Mass Effect 3′s Ending Being “Fixed”

Mass Effect 3 PG

In the recent fallout of the Mass Effect 3 endings fans have been begging Bioware to resolve this problem. Through the likes of Internet rage and petitions their cries have been heard at and responded to. First with a firm and defensive stance on a creator’s right to their own products and now with appeasement.

Bioware Co-founder Dr. Ray Muzyka announced yesterday that the team is currently working on content that will hopefully “provide more clarity for those seeking further closure to their journey”.

What does this mean? We really don’t know anything besides the fact that Bioware will be attempting to make the ending more satisfying. Further information will be released in the coming month, so if your waiting for a “fix” before finishing Mass Effect 3 it’s going to be awhile.

Dr. Muzyka also added that the “destructive criticism” of the game will not be tolerated, so don’t expect a reply to your fan-boytastic rage filled e-mail. However any constructive criticism will be greatly appreciated by the team at Bioware.

Bioware seems to be backpedaling at the moment. At first it appeared they were insulted by the fan backlash that the game’s ending received but now they realize that the fans have every right to express their displeasure for it.

I think it’s just sad that no one is really talking about how great of a game it truly is.Rather they’re focusing on the flawed 10 minute ending and forgetting about that first 30 hours of gaming excellence.

I think its sad that youre forgetting about the previous 2 games and how epic the first one was and how cathartic the battle with saren was in the end. Then The second one which was a little less epic but still good ended in a suicide mission where it was still possible to get out with everyone alive and save the day (again). Add up the hours you spent saving the day prior to this and (if you did a full out completionist style run through) youre looking at well over 150hours before ME3 even hit the shelves. Then you have the 3rd one come out and everyone is waiting to finally fight the reapers en mass and what happens? you get a ~30hr game in RPG mode where the only thing that seems to have mattered up until this point decision wise was how many people you’ll fuck over in the end of the 3rd game.

It would be like the Star Wars series ending with luke having to decide whether or not to join the sith, kill the sith, or ruin space travel for everyone effectively stranding everyone in their home galaxy. You’d be pissed too.

Lastly the game ignores at least 2 facts that I can come up with off the top of my head and a scenario that likely could work as well. One is the Thanix cannon that the Normandy was outfitted with in ME2. The Thanix cannon is a turian gun developed from the remains of one of sovereign’s guns found on the citadel. Yet the normandy never even tries shooting at the reapers and the turians are dropping like flies even though they have the Thanix on their own ships. Two, if you played “The Arrival” DLC then you know that when a mass relay is destroyed it wipes out the entire system its in… that doesnt happen at the end of ME3 when the relay’s are destroyed. And the scenario i was thinking they could have also tried would have been have the geth all get together and hack into the reaper consciousness and bring down the kinetic barriers. Remember in the end of the first game when sovereign transferred its consciousness into the body of Saren? When you killed sovereign in saren’s body the shell that was the reaper was completely vulnerable and able to be taken down as it fell off the citadel tower. Yet the writer didnt even try anything like this… Oh one more thing. The first game had drew karpyshin as the lead writer, ME2 had drew and mac walters as head writers, and ME3 has mac walters as head writer…. any guesses as to why ME3 sucks now?

You make some solid points but here is how I feel about some of the things you said. To start, yes ME1 was magnificent and I personally feel it’s the best game of the series. 2 however was a bit of a let down for me. The ending just didn’t make me feel anything besides wonderment. I was shocked that there where hardly any tough choices throughout the game and especially at the end. Being able to survive that last “suicide” mission with an entire team was ridiculously easy. As some point a semi-scripted death should of happened.Simply doing people a favor and not being a complete buffoon in your tactical choices was all it took too complete the last mission with zero casualties. You really have to try to get your team killed, which isn’t a very satisfying experience. Then came the final choice of what to do with the human Reaper, a black and white choice that didn’t cause me to second guess my self much like previous choices int he series.

Nearly all your choices from ME1 and 2 were called upon in 3. Sure maybe not at the ending, which is my problem with it, but you should think of the entire ME3 game as an end. Loose and side stories get tied up all the way through.

As for all the highly detailed matter, you have to remember it’s a piece of fiction, things aren’t always going to make perfect sense. I’m not condoning the writers throwing the lore out the window but many people who are upset with the ending are over-analyzing it. For the most part the ME3 is a heart-wrenching journey from start to finish. Unfortunately the ending contradicted many things throughout the series. Plenty of end-game story lines were left open and the endings didn’t live up to expectations. Gamers thought with all the choices they made during each game would be called upon in the final moments of the ME3and this wasn’t so.

However to say ME3 sucks is unfair. We are all entitled to our personal opinions but As you can see I just can’t agree with that statement in the slightest. I’m not going to suddenly forget about the first 30 hours just because the last 10 minutes weren’t what I hoped they be.

I like this web site very much, Its a really nice billet to read and find info. “As for me, except for an occasional heart attack, I feel as young as I ever did.” by Robert Benchley.
