So, it’s time for the demo of the third installment of the epic RPG Mass Effect series. Mass Effect 3‘s demo gives us an impression of the game which can be possibly the Game of The Year. With its stunning visuals and smooth gameplay, it provides an experience no less than a blockbuster movie.
Player Initiation
The character creation in Mass Effect 3 demo is quite similar to that of its predecessor Mass Effect 2. Genders can be chosen as you can choose to lay between Male and Female characters. The classes are also similar to the prequel.
Player Experience
This time in Mass Effect 3 demo the story can be experienced according to the player’s preference. There are 3 preferences to choose from:
- Action
The story can be played as a general third-person shooter with more action/combat and less dialogue sequences or you can say dialogues will be shown as cut-scenes.
- Role-Playing
The classic Mass Effect experience with adjustable combat difficulty.
- Story
The Story mode is more or less like the classic Mass Effect experience but the difficulty level is fixed and it’s higher than the other two preferences.
Storyline
The story starts with Commander Shepard being relieved from the command then Captain David Anderson and the Earth Council summons Shepard because of an imminent threat. As teased before, the Reapers are back to wreak havoc and break Earth’s defenses. Soon, the harmony and peace of Earth is broken. Now it’s upto our protagonist Shepard to escape the Reapers’ invasion and unite all the species to stand against this massive threat.
Gameplay
Just like its prequel, Mass Effect 3 demo is a third-person shooter as well as a role-playing game. Shepard has various types of weapons as well as a new melee ability where he can beat down the enemy’s a$$ with his charged melee which is different for each class and all other things are similar to Mass Effect 2. *Spoiler* The enemies include the Husks, the Cannibals, Assault Troopers (in 2nd part of the demo), Combat Engineer (2nd part of the demo) and Turret (also in 2nd part of the demo). The demo ends with a mech boss named Atlas which is a Cerberus which is a badass armored mech which has basically a shield and an armor as its protection. *Spoiler ends*
Environment
The first part of the demo consists of Shepard fighting his way through the Reapers’ invasion on Earth with Captain Anderson. As the player progress towards his/her destination, the Reapers are wreaking havoc on the whole environment. Destruction of ships, buildings and other structures can be witnessed as you progress and believe us, it’s spectacular. The rippling effect of the destruction of the battleships are great and with its stunning graphics and wonderful physics, the environment of Mass Effect 3 demo is impressive.
The second part of the demo takes us to the Salarian planet which is a jungle planet covered with vegetation and home to the Salarians. The demo takes place in the scientific facility which feels real due to the sterilized setting of the game. Kudos to Raylene Deck (Level Designer, Mass Effect series) for the awesome level designs.
Conclusion
As we said before, the demo of the most anticipated game of 2012 gave us the impression of being a frontrunner for this year’s Game of The Year with its spectacular representation and dynamic gameplay. Sure, the Mass Effect fans are going to enjoy when the full game is launched as well as it has the ability to attract new players to the series. One of the thing which I will like to point out that the game tried to emotionally connect with the player by showing a child at the very beginning of the game before the Reapers’ attack and post-Reapers’ attack, Shepard witnesses the death of the child along with others as the game tries to show the depth of the emotion connected to the ongoing events.
